HR Training
The Brief
A small public house and hospitality group came to us, as they wanted to add to the skillset of managers who were responsible for dealing with day-to-day HR activity in several of their successful outlets.
The managers were great at running their pubs but required some additional support in how to deal with some of the typical HR issues that arise on a daily basis, such as disciplinary and grievance procedures, as well as the legal framework surrounding HR.
The aim was to broaden their knowledge and understanding of how to effectively manage employees in the workplace and deal with performance management issues.
The Solution
We began by identifying the HR skill gap based upon the managers current level of understanding and where the senior managers wanted them to be.
The managers needed to feel totally in control when dealing with disciplinary and performance management procedures, as well as ensuring that a fair process was followed and aligned to the Company policy.
We, therefore, decided to create a bespoke and interactive training workshop for the managers to attend, which was tailored specifically for their business and incorporated issues we had previously assisted them with in the past. The workshop was made up of bitesized modules covering how to manage poor performance (during and after probation) and how to manage the disciplinary procedure (covering investigations, suspension, disciplinary meetings, sanctions, the appeal process and employment tribunals).
The managers were provided with training packs to take away which included top tips on how to deal with HR issues moving forward and the relevant Company policies.
The Outcome
Having completed the workshops we received great feedback. All of the managers stated that they would now be able to confidently handle HR issues in the workplace, in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
They said they were also now more aware of the legal implications when dealing with HR matters and the importance of documenting procedures. It was great to see the managers really enjoying the session, all of whom said they would now feel confident contacting us if they had any difficult cases moving forward that they needed further guidance on.
