Large scale closure of a department
The Brief
Our client needed to close a department, which would result in twenty plus employees being made redundant.
The client had not handled large scale redundancies before and wanted support throughout the process.
The Solution
Rather than just provide off-site support like many other HR consultancy firms, we delivered an on-site solution which meant we could react quickly to the many subtle issues that need to be dealt with quickly during a redundancy case of this size.
We prepared the collective consultation meeting guidance notes for the client and also conducted the meetings on their behalf, as well as the individual one-to-one meetings. Support was provided to managers by producing all letters, documentation and redundancy calculations. We also answered any day-to-day queries that came up if the managers needed advice.
The Outcome
All of the employees were exited from the business if they were not redeployed to a different department.
No employment claims were made as a result of the action, in fact, most were appreciative of the professional and supportive way in which their redundancy was handled. We also assisted employees who were being made redundant with guidance on their job search and updating their CV’s, where required.
